I co-supervise Andrea Mosso, a PhD student at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. He is exploring the impact of resolution and mesoscale eddies in water mass transformation budgets of the sub-polar North Atlantic.

Supervision of a Master’s intern

I supervised Hayat Nasirova, a masters student from the University of Bremen, during a year long internship. We were exploring how symmetric instability in the cross-equatorial North Brazil Current manifests itself in the ICON-Ocean model run at various different resolutions.

Ran tutorials for a third year undergraduate fluids course. Responsible for the setting and marking of mock exams.

Sailing

Practical and shorebased, Various sailing clubs, 2022

I’m a qualified RYA sailing instructor and have taught students of all ages (from 6 to almost 75). I also designed and taught the introduction to navigational theory course run by Oxford University Yacht Club. Topics covered include tidal calculations and theory, meteorology, and mathematics for navigation.

Advanced Quantitative Methods demonstrator

Demonstrated for three years on the advanced quantitative methods course for first year PhD students. Course covers numerical methods and scientific computing. Also demonstrated for undergraduate laboratory experiments.

Oxford environmental research summer school

Planned and ran sessions at a two day summer school on “environmental research”, aimed at penultimate year undergraduate students. Role involved administrative tasks such as managing registration and arranging accommodation, as well as organising science sessions.
